Will keep this brief in order to get it in for Halloween 2026. As I mentioned last post, the developing software Cantai has been improving enough that I've found myself wanting to re-do some old blog projects which featured virtual singing. Following Hocket Love in the Uncanny Valley from a couple of weeks ago, we now return to a bigger project - the transformation of Schubert's iconic ghost story Erlkönig from a minor key to a major key. You can read all about how that was first inspired here, with follow-up posts:
So, it only occurred to me this morning that I should try using Cantai to re-sing this classic. Cantai has recently released a beta version which makes it easier to tweak pronunciation of specific lyrics, so this was a good test case. I didn't really do that much customizing - and, honestly, the piano "playing" could also use some tweaking, but midnight approaches, so here you go. Happy Halloween!
See also: I can, can't I? (But should I?) - using an earlier version of Cantai, this is a much briefer mashup of Schubert's song and a Mariah Carey Christmas classic.
